Easy Gluten-Free German Spaetzle

25 MINUTES

super easy

4 SERVES

I finally got the time to try and make a easy gluten-free german Spaetzle / Spätzle dish for the first time.

In the past, I ate Spätzle in restaurants several times but I never actually thought of making it at home as well. So, in order to make them at home, I bought a Spätzle grater few weeks ago and today was finally the day to give it a run!

I have to say that the Spätzle came out WONDERFUL!!! 😍🙌 Great texture and perfect taste! I served it with chicken & gravy but you can of course serve it with meat as well (Goulash for example).

I know most recipes use milk when making this dish, but I decided to use water this time instead. I think the outcome was still really really good!! 👌

Have you ever tried/heard about Spätzle before? It’s basically a type of pasta made with eggs, flour and milk/water that is usually served with meat gravy dishes 😋 It’s a traditional dish in Germany, Austria and other countries in this region.

So my friends, let me know In the comments below if you ever tired easy gluten-free german Spaetzle before 😃 I think it’s such a great dish that can really upgrade your menu!

Ingredients

Adjust Servings
300g gluten free flour I run it through a strainer before so the flour will be "smoother"
3 eggs
150 ml carbonated water You can use regular water also but carbonated ones will give you a nicer result
1 teaspoon salt

Directions

1.

Mix all ingredients together using a whisk or a mixer until you get a sticky, thick, batter.

2.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Once boiled, start shaping the spätzle noodles. You can do it in several ways - A. Use a grater like the one shown here:
B. Place some of the batter onto a wooden board and using a scraper, try to cut small and thin noodles. After every time you cut the noodle, throw it into the water (Tip: make sure the scraper’s cutting part is wet so it will be easier to cut the noodles (You can dip it in the boiling water every now and then).

3.

Let the spätzle cook in the boiling water until they start to float. This means they are ready and you can take them out using a strainer ladle.

4.

Fry the cooked, and strained, spätzle in a pan with butter/olive oil. Add cheese, onions and other toppings that you love. Another great option is to serve the spätzle with meat and gravy 😍👌 It's so gooood!
